Every Chance You Don't Take Is a Chance You Give Away

The real enemy was never shame or judgment. It's the moment you stop giving yourself a chance. Here's why that's the only thing worth fighting.

I wrote about being bad first, about not overthinking, about failing on purpose and standing back up. But if there's one single idea I'd want to leave behind after everything else fades, it's this: the real enemy was never shame, never ourselves, and never what other people think of us. The real enemy is the moment you stop giving yourself a chance.

Why I Believe This Matters for My Whole Generation

I believe I'm part of a generation genuinely scared to take risks, to actually get things done, to act on the opportunities sitting right in front of us. I don't say that as an insult — I lived every part of that fear myself, through rejected interviews, videos I couldn't watch, a delivery business that buried me in debt, years of hesitating before finally going back to school. I understand the fear from the inside.

But I also believe the way forward for people in that same position — scared, doubtful, low on self-esteem — starts with one simple practice: doing things regardless of all of that. Just do it anyway.

The Actual Mechanics of "Giving Yourself a Chance"

Every act of courage to try and execute something is another chance to grow, and also another chance to fail. That's the deal — you don't get one without risking the other. I've come to believe you don't need to be successful every single time you try. You just need to keep trying until one attempt actually works, and that one success becomes the doorway to the ones that follow.

But here's the part that makes this fragile: what happens the moment you stop giving yourself that chance? The probability of ever reaching that eventual success doesn't just decrease. It disappears completely. You can't succeed at something you never attempt again.

Every Chance Not Taken Is Quietly Gone Forever

This is the piece I want to sit with directly: every chance you don't take isn't neutral. It's not simply "still available later, whenever you're ready." It's a chance actively given away — to hesitation, to fear, to the version of you that decided waiting felt safer than moving.

I think about every interview I almost didn't attend because I assumed rejection first. Every video I almost didn't post because I couldn't stand hearing my own voice. Every application I almost didn't send because the odds felt too low to bother. Each of those, had I not pushed past the hesitation, would have simply vanished — not paused, not banked for later, just gone.

An Invitation, Not a Lecture

I don't think this message works as a lecture from someone who's already "arrived," because I haven't fully arrived anywhere myself. This is an invitation instead: let's be brave together. Let's give ourselves — repeatedly, stubbornly — countless chances to try, to show up, to give our best effort, and to show the world, and ourselves, what we're actually capable of when we stop withholding chances from ourselves out of fear.

That's genuinely why this book exists. Not to prove I've figured everything out, but to put a concrete voice behind a simple, repeatable belief: your dreams, desires, prayers, wishes, and ideal future all start the same unglamorous way — by practicing the act of doing things regardless of how scared, doubtful, or unready you currently feel.

What This Means the Next Time You Hesitate

The next time you catch yourself pulling back from something — an application, a conversation, a decision, a leap that scares you — remember what's actually at stake in that moment. It's not really about whether you're ready. It's about whether you're willing to let that specific chance disappear, permanently, because waiting felt more comfortable than moving.

Every chance you don't take is a chance you give away. Take it anyway.
